Girl trefficking awareness in Nepal

Human Trafficking Awareness (1 Week to 5 Months)

The Himalayan Foundation Nepal (HFN) has organized a human trafficking awareness program in Nepal, as a public awareness volunteer program designed to stop the trafficking of girls and women. Abduction and trafficking of women and children is a great problem in the Nepalese society that is plagued by illiteracy and poverty. Brothels and sex houses are huge promoters of trafficking. Traffickers are abducting children, handing them over for adoption and using them as child labour in various factories, sometimes even selling their organs. Every year between five to seven thousand Nepalese women are being sold in brothels as sex workers, and about two hundred thousand Nepalese women are operating sex businesses in various brothels of India. After opening employment in nearby Gulf countries, many Nepalese girls (as young as nine years old) began working in brothels. Traffickers are able to lure young Nepalese girls by false promises of good paying jobs. Due to open borders and weak laws, various incidents of human trafficking and abduction are increasing in Nepal day by day. Many districts are selling more and more women, including: Sindhupalchok, Makawanpur, Dhading, Kavre, Rasuwa, Dang, Kailali, Siraha, Saptari and Udayapur.

Traffickers are able to sell daughters of impoverished, illiterate families by marrying them, in the pretext of a good job, and then giving them to brothels of Delhi and Mumbai. Nepalese girls are compelled to follow their husbands after the marriage with hopes of pleasure and visiting cities. Traffickers are able to use these girls as sex slaves and sell them to brothel owners. Brothels force girls to satisfy 15 to 20 customers per day by having sex with them. If a girl refuses sex with any customer or the customer is not satisfied with her, she is tortured mentally and battered physically. If infected with HIV, the brothel will banish her and she will return to her native country to wait for customers in the red-light district. Society does not accept these young women, which only worsens their living conditions.

Our organization has been operating awareness and educative programs in the districts where girls are trafficked in large numbers. We are operating programs to rescue these girls and women. We have prepared a volunteering program to rescue and rehabilitate these girls and we request that you participate in our quest by donating and/or contributing your time by volunteering with the program.
